The Altana, in the Castello. Beautiful appartement with a small terrasse on the roof. Quiet neighborhood despite the proximity of San Marco. Be prepared to climb 4 flights of stairs, but that's the price to pay for a magnificent view! Walking distance from the Biennale and close to many good restaurants.

Great flat! We really enjoyed staying here. Full of interesting objects, clean and tidy and well located. Highly recommend.

Top floor apartment with fantastic views. Conveniently situated close to the San Zaccaria vaporetto stop and St Mark's Square. The apartment was very clean and the layout suited our needs perfectly. When we return to Venice the Altana apartment will definitely be on our shortlist to stay in.

Great apartment for two people. The apartment had all the amenities we required - comfortable bed, clean, spacious apartment and wonderful views from the Altana. Truly Venice provided an excellent printed guide upon arrival to restaurants, sites, etc. It borders San Marco and Castello which makes easy access to many places. Be prepared for 60+ steps up to apartment for those with any mobility issues.

We would like to thank you for your kindness and your help with our emergency booking. The apartment is in a great location and has all the necessary equipment. The gazebo definitely adds to the attractiveness of the place! We recommend this place to all friends as the ideal place to stay in Venice.

Venice is beautiful and everyone should see it. There is no better place to stay in Venice than the Altana apartment. Clean, neat and furnished tastefully. From the gazebo beautiful views, you just do not want to go down from it. The Host is very friendly, helpful and well organized. Optimal location, close to St. Mark's Square and other attractions of Venice. I highly recommend this apartment.

Enjoy 360 degree views of Venice from the wonderful Altana. Open the windows and be serenaded by gondoliers as they float along the Riva del Vin or listen to the chimes of midnight as you gaze at San Marco's Campanile from your living room seat. Truly Venice can be truly trusted for a perfect venetian experience.

Altana is close to everything! Truly venice was most helpful in helping us settle in and familiarizing us with the area immediate to the apartment. Its very convenient to pretty much everything one would wish to enjoy in the centre of Venice. Overlooks the gondola route that operates from San Marco, so one can watch the comings and goings of the gondoliers while enjoying breakfast on the upper rooftop seating area. Would do it again next week if we could!!

My wife and I spent 4 days at the apartment in June 2016. The place is huge, in a great location, with spectacular views over the Grand Canal. It is clean and very quiet. The beds were quite comfortable. On the negative side, when we arrived several of the windows were open to air the place out; this allowed lots of flying insects inside which was annoying. Also, wifi was sporadic, and not included in the price of the room. Overall I would recommend this apartment.

What and amazing apartment : high quality and comfy chairs and bed, lots of lovely antiques and books and guide books, a fully equiped kitchen! The view from the roof terrace was spectacular. The stairs were excellent to counter all the great food and wine with lots of restaurants right on the doorstep. The apartment has an excellent position (St Marks could hardly have been closer) but yet so quiet! Check in and out couldn't have been easier : Thomas was lovely, very efficient and there to meet us off the vapporetto! We will be back and I wouldn't want to stay anywhere else. Thank you!

Dear Truly Venice team. I was most impressed with your prompt and helpful replies to all my emails. Also Hannah was a great rep and met us on time and was very friendly and efficient. The apartment was clean, well presented, spacious and had everything we could have needed. The views were spectacular! I would come back again. Thanks again for your efficient service. Cheers

We loved the apartment. Very comfortable, well equipped and full of light. We particularly loved the "altana", the roof tops terrace. The apartment was a 3 minute walk from St Marks and the vaporetto and 10 to 15 minutes to the Rialto market. On a minor note, our greeter was late meeting us at the vaporetto stop and didn't seem to be very familiar with the property. Also, quite a few steps to the top but...that is also part of the charm of a loft apartment in Venice! We would definitely rent this apartment again!

Very close to San Marco (3-4 minute walk), though technically in Castello i believe , easy walking distance to many of the main sites, easy water taxi pick up and drop off, the entrance to the apartment is in a quiet alley (dead end) so very quiet late at night. Quite a climb up stairs to the apartment (top floor). The views from the Altana and particularly the kitchen area window of the canal and the singing gonaliers is ABSOLUTELY stunning, very relaxing following a "full on" day in Venice. Only the main bedroom has air conditioning. (Double/King room) The double sofa bed is extrememly comfortable. The bathroom was clean and perfectly adequate. (there is only one bathroom) There is noise from a pump as the water is pumped to the top floor but we easily ignored this. Views are just as in the photographs as is the decor. Venetian! Best feature was the balcony (altana) worst was the very badly equipped kitchen. Zero TV reception. Booking through Truly Venice was a breeze. We were met as we arrived by public boat (Allilaguna). Good spacious apartment.

Altana was a wonderful apartment with a rooftop garden and views out over a canal, we were regularly serenaded by accordion players and the sounds of singing drifting up from nearby gondolas! We enjoyed sitting in our rooftop hearing the church bells ring out over Venice sipping Bellinis! Within 5 minutes easy stroll of Piazza San Marco, the apartment is beautifully appointed with all mod cons and lovely artworks / glassware. Truly Venice were very attentive and made our transfers in and out of Venice as easy as possible. Highly recommended.

This was our second time in the Altana apartment, and we loved it even more! It's warm, filled with light, and in the center of everything. We really felt like we owned Venice!

We had previously been to Venice some years ago and booked this apartment for a week for out honeymoon. Was not cheap but then again Venice never is ! We selected it as my wife wished a bathtub and I wished a balcony ( or altana in this case ). I have no hesitiation in reccomending the apartment or Truly Venice the agents and we were allowed to keep the apartment on as they had no booking until we left for the airport on the last day at no extra cost. We will have brillinat memories of the view onto the canal and the singing Gondola trips passing by. The location could not be more central. To be really petty ( sorry to the owners/agents but we did pay a substantial rent ) there was no tin opener and batteries in the DVD control were flat. Also the altana is unsuitable for young children ( its quite a drop ) but the owners do make that clear. My only other negative is that its 62 steps up from the street which whilst no problem to us might be to an older couple. These are petty points and otherwise I would have no hesitation in booking here again and reccomend the apartment .

The apartment is very elegant with interesting interior design, a wonderful roof garden, and an amazing view of the gondolas navigating down a narrow canal to the lagoon. Kitchen largely functional, bedroom comfortable, shower large. The location is superb, just minutes from all the attractions and yet in more of a neighborhood rather than overwhelmed by tourists. The service was outstanding. Booking was easy, the private water taxi the way to go if you can afford it, and someone waiting to meet you took all the stress away. (A common sight in Venice is lost tourists with big cases and little maps trudging around looking for their hotel.) We have stayed in many apartments around the World. This may have been the best!

My wife and I travelled to Venice to celebrate my 60th birthday, staying for a week. We used this very central location to head off in a different direction each day, exploring as much of the city as we could cram into a week. The highlight was the view from the dining room window. We would open this window fully in the morning to watch the gondolas traverse a regular route right under our window. It was not unusual to hear a singer, and accordionist, or a guitarist seated on one of the gondolas serenading the occupants of the gondola, and all around, with a traditional tune. Check in was a breeze after our long trip from Canada. Enrico was thorough in his introduction and even provided us with a map where he highlighted a few restaurants, art shops and other areas of interest for us. The altana was comfortable for 2 offering views out over the rooftops, or a day ending drink and appetizer. Although we happily got lost often we were always able to find our way back to this wonderful apartment, close to everything.

This is a delightful three-level home with 63 steps up to the kitchen, dining, living room; then up to the study, and finally to the piece de resistance, the Altana. The apartment is filled with books of art, history and literature. The WiFi is fast and reliable throughout. This is a comfortable home to be in, with good furniture and bed. There is a good unpretentious restaurant just downstairs and around the corner. The apartment is a few blocks from Piazza San Marco, and is in an excellent location for wandering in Castello.

This is my third stay in altana and I now consider it my annual home in Venice! The location is great - away from the crowds but only a few minutes walk from the sights of San Marco (And just around the corner from a delightful bacaro with the best bacala in Venice!) In fact, you can see the campanile from the lovely altana - and there is nothing more magical than hearing the chimes at midnight! The views are breath-taking - rooftops and bacino and canals. The spacious duplex open plan living makes for wonderful dinner parties - and with those views - who wants to eat anywhere else? (Get the evening with started with a little sunset prosecco on the altana and soak in the the amazing colour palette of Venice!) The evening meal even comes with it's own musical accompaniment...leave the windows open and the joyous voices of the gondolieri singing as they paddle the tourists along the piccoli canali will fill the room. Sheer perfection! (Not to mention always reliable and fantastic welcome service from Daniela and the Truly Venice team!)

Our one week stay at Altana was a Dream Come True. Breathtaking 360 degree views from the rooftop patio, the sights and sounds of the Gondolas passing below, and the splendor and spaciousness of the apartment all contributed to a wonderful visit to Venice. The location was especially great, being so close to San Marco, the center of everything, while secluded enough to get away from the throngs. The apartment was fully stocked with everything we needed to cook meals, wash & dry our clothes, and plan our adventures each day. It was Truly as if we were full time residents!
July 2012, John and Dale (United States)
It was our first visit to Venice and it was great having an apartment as our base. The location and view were perfect. The stairs were a bit rough at the beginning of the week, but by the end, we were pros.

Fabulous apartment, wonderful views, perfect location We had a fantastic few days in this apartment and would love to go again for longer next time. Not suitable for young children and you must be fit to manage the 66 steps up to the apartment., plus the extra 15 to the altana. The location is close to St Marks but also off the main tourist trail so nice and quiet. The only sounds being the splash of the gondolas as they pass up the beautiful Canal de Vin. and the occasional serenade. The apartment is beautiful and so well appointed. This is our favourite holiday location so far and the Truly Venice staff are wonderful . We particularly enjoyed shopping for fresh vegetables and fruit from the boat in Castello. There are so many lovely little food shops, akin to our delis at home. This was a genuine gourmet experience for us.

Fantastic! We stayed in your apartment in June 2013. The apartment was fabulous and the location was fantastic. The apartment was very spacious, elegant and had everything we needed, with the bonus of a beautiful canal view , and a great little balcony on the roof. We had drinks at the end of the day up here. It is right near a piazza with restaurants, and really close to San Marco, and the ferries, also only about an 8 min(if you don't look at shops) walk to the Rialto Bridge. The apartment is on about the 3rd floor with no lift, so maybe difficult for some people, but the bonus of being this high was we had the rooftop balcony, and a great view over the rooftops. We could even see San Georgio in the distance. We were travelling with myself, husband and 15year old daughter. She slept upstairs in the study/alcove, and loved having her own space. There was not a proper bed here (mattress on floor), and no closing doors for privacy, so probably not good for people other than family. It was very easy to get to everything from this apartment, and the check in and greeting was smooth. It is not far from the ferries when carrying suitcases.
